We Can Share Our Strength to Feed Hungry Children

12for12kShare Our Strength, a.k.a. Strength.org, strives to make sure no child in America grows up hungry. This vital organization is the 12for12k Challenge supported charity for March.

While most news about hunger concentrates on third world countries, hunger is also a serious problem at home. More than 12.4 million children in the United States are at risk from hunger. That’s one in six children. Consequences include poor health, fatigue, hospitalization, behavioral difficulties and impaired scholastic performance.

By partnering with leading corporations and charitable organizations, Share Our Strength works to provide children and their families with the healthy food they need. This is the difference our support can create:

  • $35 feeds a child three meals a day for over a month.
  • $50 provides 48 preschool children with a nutritious lunch for a day.
  • $100 provides 25 healthy bags of food for a family at a food bank.
  • $250 connects 9,300 families to programs that provide free meals for their children during the summer.
  • $1,000 provides over 24,000 glasses of milk to a school.

If a single donation can do so much, what can we do together? We can Share Our Strength by donating just $10 through the 12for12k Challenge to this month’s charity. Just imagine what $12,000 (1200 people x $10) could do.

Some of you may know that in April of last year I hurt my low back while moving boxes at the day job. It continues to be a difficult recovery, and last month Texas Mutual, my workers compensation provider, cut off my income benefits. I was without income for a couple of weeks as we waited on our tax return to arrive.

Consequences pushed us (I am married with 2 children) to accept a gift from our local food bank. Without the support of generous people the food bank would not be able to provide such services.

No child should feel hunger. Sadly we can’t feed every child in the world, but we can make a huge difference to some. Please join 12for12k in support of Share Our Strength. Together we can help put an end to hunger.

    Hey there James,

Thank you for your amazing and continued support of what we’re trying to achieve with the 12for12k Challenge.

It’s good people like you that help spread the word as well as actively support that makes it happen in the first place. I’m sorry to hear about your circumstances last month and hope that things get better for you and your family soon.

    Thank you,
