12for12k & Mom It Forward Assist Women in Kenya

12for12kThe 12for12k Challenge and Mom It Forward partner this month to support Yehu.org. This microfinance organization, located in the coastal region of Kenya, provides financial and other support services for small businesses in disadvantaged communities.

Yehu combats poverty by empowering rural entrepreneurs in Kenya through sustainable financial services. This includes savings, interest and access to micro-loans, which can be used to start or expand small businesses. Yehu also provides business training and micro-insurance to improve the lives of its members.

According to a video on Yehu.org, 80% of Kenya consists of rural communities. The people living there earn less than one dollar a day. Yehu rebuilds the economy from the inside out, offering loans of $50 to $100.

A  completely volunteer-driven non-profit, Yehu makes a huge difference to the lives of millions of women. As Mother’s Day approaches, 12for12k is delighted to be partnering with Mom It Forward to help mothers in rural kenya support their families and get them out of poverty.

The 12for12k Challenge is the combination of social media and fund-raising, aiming to change the lives of millions worldwide by raising a minimum of $144,000 for 12 charities in 2009. A new charity is supported every month.

The concept is simple:

  • 12 months of the year
  • 12 charities, a different charity each month
  • $12,000 per charity

Even a donation as small as $10 does a world of good. For more information or to donate visit 12fo12k.org.

Mom It Forward is a new trend in mom’s groups that makes giving sociable, accesable and stylish. It fosters friendships, supports good causes and teaches children the value of service.

Mom It Forward seeks to fulfill its mission by:
